Message The hesitant while runnibg is a sign that internals were getting tight as they expanded. As long as you promptly attended to adding water it should be ok. I interpret by your explaination that the tranny is delaying to shift. Is this delay in all gears? You might have overheated the tranny since it is cooled by engine coolant at the radiator bottom where tranny fluid lines run to a heat exchanger inside the radiator.

Check the tranny computer codes.

Consider changing the fluid and filter in the tranny since it possibly overheated. Also do this if the fluid has not been changed for quite awhile.

Also since the engine did get hot change out the oil and filter.

Closely monitor the cooling system for leaks especially at the water pump. If it leaks at the fan shaft you will need to replace the pump. DO NOT add any radiator sealer to fix coolant leaks - instead fix the leaks.

Do you have anti freeze in the cooling system?
